The AGCO regulates gambling in Ontario, and iGaming Ontario (iGO) is the body that stands between registered operators and players in the province's regulated market. Launched in April 2022, this is a walled system: an operator has to be iGO-registered to legally offer or advertise online casino play to people in Ontario.
Where CrownPlay stands in Ontario
CrownPlay is not registered with iGaming Ontario. Because Ontario's market is walled, that registration is the line that matters here, and CrownPlay is on the wrong side of it for the Ontario market. For that reason we do not promote CrownPlay to Ontario readers and point you to the regulated route instead.
In Ontario, choose an operator registered with iGaming Ontario. The AGCO maintains the register, and iGO-registered sites are the ones legally cleared to serve Ontarians.
Why the distinction matters for Ontarians
In the provinces with a lottery-style monopoly, an offshore casino sits in a grey area. Ontario is different: it built a licensed, competitive market and requires operators to register with iGaming Ontario to participate. An unregistered offshore site is outside that framework, and the regulated register exists precisely so Ontario players can find operators cleared to serve them.
